US President Joe Biden has come under sharp criticism over withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan which resulted in the takeover by the Taliban. Moreover, the recent explosions in Kabul which left at least 170 dead including 13 US soldiers has put Biden in a tight spot.
In this backdrop, a picture allegedly showing the cover page of Time magazine has gone viral on social media. The image shows President Biden with a turban and US Vice-President Kamala Harris in Burqa with “Impeachment TIME” written at the top.
The image is being shared on Facebook with the caption, “Is it time for Joe to go?”
NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be morphed and misleading.
On searching for TIME magazine’s cover, we found the original cover page on TIME, where they were named the person of the year.
The original cover came out on December 21, 2020, soon after they won the US elections.
We also looked for the TIME magazine covers of 2021 and found the recent one, published on August 23, 2021, featured Four Civilian Astronauts.
Moreover, none of the 2021 TIME magazine covers featured US President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
In 2020, NewsMobile debunked a similar image, where a morphed Time Magazine cover showed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris with China’s President Xi Jinping.
Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the viral picture is morphed.
