With coronavirus cases rising in India again, government has placed several restrictions to mitigate the spread of the contagious virus. However, in the backdrop of this, fake news regarding the same is also spreading rapidly.

In one such post, it is being claimed that the lockdown will be reinforced in the national capital and other parts of the country. A video is being widely shared on WhatsApp which says that a complete lockdown will be imposed till March 31 from today. The video goes on to say that all other services barring essential services will be halted till March 31.

We also found a similar post on Facebook, it can be seen here. The caption of the post says, “Lockdown again in Delhi”.

Fact Check

NewsMobile fact checked this post and found the claim to be false and misleading. When we clicked on the link shared along with the claim in the said post, we discovered that the post was published on YouTube in March 2020, i.e. last year by ABP News.

It was a news clip from last year when the first nationwide lockdown was announced by PM Modi owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

This gave us a hint that the other video from WhatsApp, which also had the logo of ABP News, could be from last year. To verify this, we put the WhatsApp video through Reverse Image Search and found out that the same news clip was posted on ABP News’s YouTube channel last year (March 2020).


For a solid fact check we also ran a keyword search on google with the same keywords- ‘Lockdown Again In Delhi’, to look for the latest news report, if any.
But, we did not come across any news related to this.

Thereby, with all the above information, it can be said that the claim being circulated is false and misleading.
