Fact Check: Don’t Fall For FAKE Links Related To COVID-19 Vaccination Registration

With the second phase of vaccination being rolled out across the country for those above the age of 60 years and people above the age of 45 years with co-morbidities, a post with a website link is doing rounds on social media claiming that it is the COVID-19 vaccination registration portal.

“First dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has been given to PM Sh Narendra Modiji at AIIMS today. Narendra Modiji appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free! Register for COVID 19 Vaccination on the following link-
Https://selfregistration.preprod.co-vin.in Use your mobile number and get OTP and register using your ID / AADHAR card. It will start on or after 1st March 2021″, read the Facebook post.

Translation: COVID-19 वैक्सीन की पहली खुराक आज एम्स में पीएम श्री नरेंद्र मोदीजी को दी गई है। नरेंद्र मोदीजी उन सभी से अपील करते हैं जो वैक्सीन लेने के लिए योग्य हैं। साथ में, हम भारत को COVID-19 मुक्त बनाने दें! निम्नलिखित लिंक पर COVID 19 टीकाकरण के लिए पंजीकरण करें Https://selfregistration.preprod.co-vin.in अपने मोबाइल नंबर का उपयोग करें और ओटीपी प्राप्त करें और अपनी आईडी / आधार कार्ड का उपयोग करके पंजीकरण करें। यह 1 मार्च 2021 को या उसके बाद शुरू होगा।

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on February 28, 2021, that the registration for the next phase (second phase) of COVID-19 vaccination via CoWIN 2.0 portal will start at 9 am on March 1.

“Registration will open at 9:00 am on 1st March 2021 (at www.cowin.gov.in). Citizens will be able to register and book an appointment for vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the CoWIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications such as Arogya Setu etc,” the health ministry said in an official release.

Further, we found a tweet by Press Information Bureau (PIB) in which they have clarified that a website ‘https://selfregistration.preprod.co-vin.in/‘ is impersonating the official ‘CO-WIN’ website and is asking users to register for COVID-19 vaccination using mobile number.

PIB stated that the website is a fake website and urged people to follow the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website for official information related to the COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Hence, with all this information put together, it proves that the website link in circulation is fake.
