As the number of COVID-19 cases see a spurt across different states in India, various posts regarding lockdowns and restrictions have started flooding social media.

A Facebook user shared a video of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, where he can be heard announcing the list of districts under lockdown in the state of Utter Pradesh.

“Lockdown uttar pradesh mai,” the Facebook post read.

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found that the video is old.
Since UP CM Yogi Adityanath mentioned lockdown in 15 districts, we ran a search based on these keywords and found multiple reports from March 2020 featuring the same video.

“Lockdown in UP: CM Yogi Adityanath announces lockdown in 15 districts including Lucknow & Kanpur,” the title of the video report read.

The description of the report read: #Lockdown in UP: CM Yogi Adityanath announces lockdown in 15 districts including Lucknow, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Aligarh, Moradabad, Lakhimpur Kheiri, Bareilly, Azamgarh, Meerut, Gorakhpur and Saharanpur.

The same video was also featured in the report by ABP News and Lallantop in March 2020.

We then ran another search to check if any restrictions have been imposed by the Uttar Pradesh government recently and found a report by DNA dated Mar 17, 2021, stating that ‘despite a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, the Yogi Adityanath government has ruled out any night curfew and lockdown in any part of the state’.

We also checked the official website and social media pages of Uttar Pradesh Government and found a tweet by ‘Info Uttar Pradesh Fact Check‘ stating that the viral post is false.

Claim: Lockdown plan in the state. #InfoUPFactCheck: This viral video in circulation on social media is old. At present, there is no plan for any lockdown in the state,” the tweet read.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the video is old and the post is misleading as no such announcement has been made till the time of filing this report.
