FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the picture and found out that the viral picture is morphed.

When we put the image through Reverse Image Search, we found the picture on a photography website, Yellow Korner published by Tristan Zhou, a photographer based in Seattle, USA. The caption of the picture read, ‘THE MONSTER BUILDING MULTIPLIED’.

As per the description, the photographer Tristan Zhou used the artifice of composite images and post-production effects for the Monster Building or Yick Cheong Building in Quarry Bay in Hong Kong and magnified the size by superimposing two photographs.

We also found the picture on Zhou’s Instagram handle, published on June 7, 2021. He mentions in the caption that he had this editing idea while waiting for a cab in 2018.

We found a similar post on his profile, where he has added some animation effects on the building floors.

Finally, we looked for the picture of the Yick Cheong Building in Quarry Bay on Google maps and found that it is a conglomeration of five incredibly dense and stacked residential complexes, but the actual size has been edited using digital manipulation tools.

Hence, the above information proves that the picture of the monster building is edited.
