In an attempt to reduce air pollution and move towards a more sustainable way of living, the British government has announced that it plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2040.
Britain is the latest European country to adopt the ban following from France’s announcement a few months ago. In a similar move to France, only cars that are hybrids, that is cars with an internal combustion engine combined with an electric motor, and fully electric cars will be available for sale in the UK.
Before the ban can be enforced, the British government has much to do to provide alternatives to the British people. The government will have to improve and expand the availability of charging points while also incentivizing hybrids and electric cars to increase demand and make hybrid and electric cars viable for manufacturers.
