National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is likely to travel to China, amid the ongoing border standoff, for the BRICS National Security Agency meet to be held later in July. The meeting will be hosted by Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi in Beijing.
It is expected that Doval will discuss the present border issues at the meeting and seek explore solutions to resolve the border standoff between India and China regarding the Doklam area near Sikkim.
Despite China’s aggressive stance on the issue, India continues to advocate a diplomatic resolution to the standoff and avoid a military confrontation between the two neighbours. Earlier, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar had stated that there was no reason why both countries would not be able to resolve the situation. In related developments, Chinese media claimed that India intervening in the border dispute between China and Bhutan could be used to justify intervention in Kashmir on behalf of Pakistan.
