Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra is set to open its first manufacturing plant in Detroit, United States later in the year. According to reports, Mahindra has deployed $1.5 billion in investment for their US strategy.
The plant will be the first to be established by an Indian manufacturer in the US. It is expected that Mahindra will manufacture off-road utility vehicles in the plant.
Mahindra chairman Anand Mahindra stated that the investment was a major milestone for the company. He further iterated that the plant won’t be mass producing vehicles in the first year, expecting a production of around a few thousand units a year. The Mahindra chairman also added that the US was one of the most rewarding places to invest, despite US President Trump’s upcoming immigration ban.
