A Myanmar military plane carrying at least a 105 people, mostly soldiers and their families, and 14 crew has gone missing on a flight to the city of Yangon on Wednesday, according to Myanmar military officials.
The ongoing search and rescue operations have resulted in the debris from the plane being found in the Andaman Sea, close to the city of Dawei. The Myanmar navy and air force continue the search operations to find the wreckage of the aircraft
The missing aircraft was a Chinese-made Y-8F-200 four-engine turboprop plane, which makes up a large part of the Myanmar air force’s fleet of aircraft, had been delivered to Myanmar last year.
Myanmar has witnessed several incidents related to poor air safety as the aircraft fleet continues to age without proper maintenance. The incidents are as recent as June, when an Mi-2 helicopter crashed into a hillside, claiming the lives of three officers.
